The world needs to be fixed…

I was having a conversation with my five-year-old sister and just out of curiosity I asked her what she wanted to be when she grows up. To my surprise, she responded, “I want to fix the world.”
I was expecting her to say a doctor, a teacher or a nurse because that’s all most five-year-olds know.

Back to fixing the world, how could a world be so broken that a five-year-old would aspire to successfully glue back all the broken shattered pieces, to put them together? She was right though, I’m sure most of you agree with her.

So this other day I was sitting next to someone sipping juice with them, then unknown to me, a fly landed in my glass, she saw it and didn’t say anything. I went on to drink it- looking aside then as I was about to take the last sip that’s when I saw the fly and I immediately discontinued but it was too late. The “friend” was intently looking at me, anxiously waiting to see whether or not I would take the fly down. She was kinda disappointed that I peeped into my glass before I could partake of the fly, at the same time she was thrilled she had to witness me drinking juice with a fly in it. I could see the smirk on her face when she told me there was a fly in my cup!

Check your company!

I wouldn’t blame a five-year-old saying she wants to fix the world. There is a lot to be fixed starting from the small circles we orbit in! It was just a fly but often times we are like that friend of mine who will intentionally keep quiet when they see danger ahead.

How many of the close people around us have we deliberately allowed to walk straight into booby traps and pretend not to notice? We only get to say something after they have succumbed to the demise.

Well, the point is not in seeking revenge after we have found out their intentions. The secret is in forgiving them and still smile at them and to continue being the great and amazing person this world needs. Collectively we can make this world a better world to live in.

The world needs Jesus and we need to look out for each other.

Don’t keep quiet when you see a fly in my juice!😅

  1. My first thought was how can one have a conversation with a five year old but when your sister said she wants to grow up to fix the world I realised that this truly was indeed a conversation – as the Bible says somewhere there is much we can learn from “out of the mouth of babes!” This was a pleasure to read. Blessings to both yourself and your highly perceptive 5 year old sister! 😊🙏💛👊🎉

  4. This is almost like a more humorous version of the parable about having wood in one’s eye. Love it!
On a more serious note, I have to agree with you that there a shocking number of people who will placidly sit by and watch others walk off a cliff. And sadly, I think many people don’t want to be told that they have a fly in their juice or that they are walking towards a cliff– they would be offended if someone told them that.

That’s where real love can become uncomfortable. If we really love someone, we will care enough about their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being to point out the hard truth to them. It might offend them at first (no one likes to be corrected), but it gives them a chance to reassess their direction and make a change. Using Scripture is one way to help protect that relationship, by showing the person it’s not just our personal opinion about their behavior, but it’s what God says about their behavior that matters. “Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” – Proverbs 27:6.

  5. Yes the world needs JESUS! We have to keep praying and believing and know God is still in control. He is not defeated and neither are we as His children. Thanks for the reminder. God bless you abundantly.
